Also high on that list are the Museum of Fine Arts Houston as host and Rio Grande as the corporate sponsor. There are further acknowledgements of these and other contributors of time, energy and funds inside this issue of SNAG News.
And speaking of SNAG News, I want to express sincere appreciation to member Nancy Monkman, who has now fully retired from working on our newsletter after fifteen years. During that time SNAG News went from a few pages of photocopied announcements to a sophisticated publication in print and now a digital resource. Nancy’s contribution to the organization is hard to overemphasize. Thanks to you, Nancy, for all your work over a decade and a half.
Another significant retirement is that of Don Friedlich from the Professional Development Seminar committee. Don, along with Andy Cooperman, founded the PDS back in 2003 and it has grown and developed into one of SNAG’s premier offerings. Andy and Harriet Estel Berman will continue as co-chairs of the PDS. Thank you Don for all your good work for SNAG in so many ways.
I want to thank Billie Jean Theide for her service on the Nominations and Elections Committee which she rotated off after the Houston conference. It is to her credit, along with the other members of the committee, that we have had such amazing people on our Board. Thanks Billie.
An additional word of thanks to Tim McCreight for his service on the Lifetime Achievement Committee over the past three years. While Tim was on the committee we honored Heikki Seppa (2008), Stanley Lechtzin (2009) and Lois Etherington Betteridge (2010). An impressive and deserving list of metalsmiths.
And you might notice that the last three individuals I have thanked, Don Friedlich, Billie Jean Theide and Tim McCreight, are all past presidents of SNAG. Some people just can’t help themselves from serving the organization over and over. We can all take a lesson from their contributions.
There are several announcements of new member service. As a result of our annual elections we have three new members on the Board of Directors. Sue Amendolara is the new President-Elect, who takes over as President at the end of the Seattle conference in 2011. Sue takes the place of Kris Patzlaff on the Board who was recent Past President. Also elected were Eliana Arenas and Jamie Obermeier as Board members replacing James Thurman and Sandie Zilker.
We have a new Chair of the Online Presence Committee, Anthony Tammaro. The new members of the Exhibition Planning Committee are Kristin Beeler, Nicole Jacquard and Jessica Calderwood serving with Chair and Board member Caroline Gore. There is a new Name Change Research Committee under the direction of Gabriel Craig, working with Anna Walker and Sandie Zilker. And finally, Alison Pack has become our Guild Coordinator, a new volunteer position created by the Board in March. Alison will be working on ways SNAG can help guilds around the country and form strategies for strengthening our relationship with them.
As you can see, there is a lot going on in our organization. If there are ways in which you think you can help, please contact any of us on the Board. Our email addresses and phone numbers are listed in this newsletter.
Have a great summer!
Respectfully submitted,
Harlan W. Butt, President
