Gallery representatives, curators and successful artists in the metals field will be available by appointment to review individual portfolios and provide advice and guidance. Pre-conference registration runs from October 20, 2009 until the conference. The Review will be held on Saturday, March 13 from 2:00-4:00pm.
Portfolio Reviews are held for for graduating students and emerging artists. Professionals in the field are available by appointment to review portfolios and provide feedback. 2010 PORTFOLIO REVIEWERS
Brigitte Martin is the founder and editor of the popular social networking site, Crafthaus. Martin apprenticed as a jewelry designer with Master Goldsmith Ulrike Brunsmann. She worked for Sotheby's and Michael Werner Gallery for a number of years before coming to the US in 1994 to open her own jewelry studio. She is currently the owner/director of Luke & Eloy Gallery in Pittsburgh, a contemporary art and fine craft gallery.
Bruce Metcalf is a studio jeweler and writer whose jewelry has been included in hundreds of national and international exhibitions in the past 40 years. Metcalf has also written extensively about issues in contemporary craft, and is co-author of “Makers: a History of American studio craft” with critic Janet Koplos.
Harriete Estel Berman has exhibited regularly in the United States and Europe including seven one person shows. In addition to teaching, giving workshops and lectures, her work is in a number of private and public collections include the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; Detroit Institute of Arts; the Renwick Gallery,Smithsonian Institute in Washington, DC; and the Jewish Museum, Berlin, Germany.She is featured in over 26 books. Harriete is author of the SNAG Professional Guidelines and a coordinator of the Professional Development Seminar at SNAG Conferences.
Lin Stanionis is currently Professor of Jewelry and Metalsmithing at the University of Kansas in Lawrence. Her creative work, encompassing both jewelry and hollowware, employs symbolic language to explore notions of transcendence and desire. Over the last decade Stanionis’s work has been shown in more than 100 national and international exhibitions including and has received a MAA-NEA Individual Artist Fellowship; a Kansas Individual Artist Fellowship; two University of Kansas Creative Work Fellowships; and seven Research Awards from the University of Kansas.
Arthur Hash is a lecturer in the Metal program at the State University of New Paltz in New Paltz, New York. His work can been seen in several international publications such as Italy's MFF and CasaD magazines and national publications such as the Lark Book series, American Craft and New Directions in Jewelry 2. Recently, he received a Fellowship from the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts as well as having the honor of being named an American Craft Searchlight Artist in 2007. Arthur's work is inspired by pop culture iconography, alternative materials and new technologies in the field of metalsmithing and jewelry design. He is the coordinator of the 2010 SNAG Juried Student Work Presentation at the SNAG conference.
Tim McCreight is a metalsmith, teacher, and designer. He taught college-level metals for 25 years and is the author of two dozen books in the field. In addition to his background in education, Tim consults for industry and runs a small company so he has a real-world understanding of the business of art.
Marthe Le Van is the senior editor for jewelry and metals at Lark Books. Since 2000, she has written, edited, juried, or curated more than 30 titles. Recent publications include "Stitched Jewels" (author) and "Masters: Gold, Major Works by Leading Jewelers" (curator). She has also been the senior editor for all jewelry books in Lark's popular "500" series as well as the juror for "500 Wedding Rings."
Gary Schott is currently the Chair of the Metals Program at the Southwest School of Art & Craft in San Antonio, TX and the 2010 coordinator of the 2010 SNAG Student Juried exhibition. He has participated in numerous national exhibitions and publications and a former SNAG National Endowment Scholarship winner, he is currently a finalist for the LEAP Award through the Society of Contemporary Craft. He was recently a visiting Assistant Professor at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, TX for the 2007/2008 academic year.
Kee-ho Yuen is currently the Head of the University of Iowa Arts program. Kee-ho employs an eclectic use of contemporary and traditional technologies and materials, ranging from advanced 3-D computer modeling to traditional fabrications and enameling. Kee-ho has curated many international and national exhibitions.
Karen Lorene is the owner of Facere Jewelry Art Gallery in Seattle, WA. She publishes Signs of Life, a literary magazine combining the work of jewelry artists and published writers. She is the author of Buying Antique Jewelry, Skipping the Mistakes and is a Current Baqord Member of Artist Trust.
Gail M. Brown is an Independent Curator with a focus on contemporary craft. She has curated over 50 exhibitions which share exceptional work across media lines from a national body of mature and mid-career artists and introduce potent ideas and forms by younger makers. For SNAG, she has curated DRAWING THE LINES: Pages From Artists' Sketchbooks, 2000, Boston; EDUCATORS/EDUCATED: Jewelry & Metal in Ohio, 2005, Cleveland; ....of lineage and legacy: Jewelry and Metals Generationally, Savannah, 2008; and Jewelry in Motion, 2009 in Philadelphia.
Mary Hallam Pearse received her M.F.A. in Metal from SUNY New Paltz and a B.F.A. in Metals/Jewelry from Kent State University.
