Managing Senior Mount Maker
Full time position is open for metalsmiths with managing experience. We are looking for someone to lead a museum quality mount-making team. Mount-making training is available.
As per the curators’ vision, the Senior Mount Maker will be responsible for designing and creating museum quality mounts for mineral specimens.
Senior Mount Maker provides guidance and leadership for the junior mount maker.
Senior Mount Maker is responsible for all mount output as well as for the safety and care of the mineral specimens while in the process of making the mounts.
BFA or certification from an accredited metal-smithing or sculpture program.
2 year minimum managing experience.
Fabrication experience with non-ferrous metals.
Fabrication with ferrous metals is a plus.
Work with resign plastics and mold making is a plus.
Must have leadership skills.
Problem solving skills: almost every specimen is a new problem to solve requiring a unique approach.
Innovation: in order to attain the vision of the curator constant innovation in the areas of design and materials are a must.
Cooperation: team work and close working relationships are necessary for a product that is technically demanding and at times only achievable with cooperation from other team members.
Candidates without mount making experience must be avid learners with an open mind to relearn old habits.
