Halstead Design Challenge

Design kits go on sale October 11, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. PST

2017 HDC Memento

A picture is worth 1000 words. What does your image reveal? The 2017 Halstead Design Challenge “Memento” asks you to incorporate a photo into a brooch constructed primarily from materials in the Halstead challenge kit. A juried selection from all entries will be exhibited at the SNAG New Orleans Conference in May 2017. Proceeds from entry fees directly benefit SNAG.

Receive a 50 pc kit of sterling silver, copper and brass supplies from Halstead to get your creative juices flowing. Your kit will include sheet metal, chain segments, wire, blanks, links, rivets and a few fun beads. Add a photo to create a brooch.  Only 200 Halstead Challenge kits are available, get your hands on them before they are gone. Design kits go on sale October 11, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. PST. Kit price/entry fee is $39 (includes shipping*).

Member Achievements – September 2016

Mimlitsch-Gray ACMyra Mimlitsch-Gray is featured in the October/November issue of American Craft magazine as one of the recipients of the 2016 American Craft Council Awards.

Niki Grandics ENJINiki Grandics is the recipient of the 2016 Halstead Grant, recognizing jewelry design excellence and business strategy acumen amongst enterprising new jewelers. Niki trained at San Diego State University and GIA and is the owner of ENJI Studio Jewelry.

Three SNAG members were also Halstead Grant finalists: Kristen Baird, Olivia Shih, and Stacy Rodgers.

Jasmine-ChanJasmine Chan was chosen as one of the four winners of the 2016 MJSA Education Foundation Scholarships. Chan is pursuing a diploma with GIA.

jaydan_moore_inverse_formationJaydan Moore’s Inverse Formation will enter the collection of the Honolulu Museum of Art.  The piece is constructed from coffee and tea pots and a sugar bowl.

New SNAG FUNdraiser

Every year SNAG provides numerous scholarships and funding to students for the annual conference. This allows students to attend at no cost in exchange for volunteering.

This year we are holding a special FUNdraiser to raise money for the Conference Student Scholarships! The special projects committee has made shirts with a metals puns on them — because we all know everyone loves a good metals pun! Take a look at our fun, new 100% cotton shirts.

SNAG Artists Accepted to ACC Baltimore

As a part of the ongoing effort to champion emerging and established makers and foster their economic development, the American Craft Council partners with media specific associations, regional guilds, and other organizations to bring new artists to their flagship show, ACC Baltimore.

Congratulations to the six invitational SNAG artists who have been accepted in the 2017 ACC Baltimore show: Alison Antelman, Amanda Hagerman, Amarette Gregor, Rosario Garcia, Sher Novak, and Stacy Rogers.
