Ivan BarnettIvan Barnett of Patina Gallery, Santa Fe, NM, was interviewed by ArtBeat about his December exhibition of steel mobiles, titled “Abstraction.” Listen here.  An article about his mobiles was also featured in Pasatiempo.

Renee_BlackwellRenee Blackwell has been named the 2013 Micro/Small Business Woman of the Year at the Sunshine Coast Business Women’s Network awards. Blackwell’s jewelry is sold in over 150 stores and galleries across Australia and New Zealand.

Nick_DongNick Dong is featured in “Glance,” a publication for the California College of the Arts community. The article focuses on his Enlightenment Room and his teaching at CCA.

Alexandra_HartAlexandra_Hart2Alexandra Hart’s work was part of the exhibition  “Allied Craftsmen Today” at the Mingei International Museum. The sculptural vernacular of her “Arthropod” series is derived from the naturally adaptive, jointed, exoskeletal forms of the phylum Arthropoda. The pieces celebrate as “sculpture” the restrictive-yet-highly-functional and protective thorny outer shell of Arthropods such as beetles and crabs.

Anne_Havel_2014Anne Havel currently has her work included in two exhibitions: “Material Matters: Making Connections,” part of the ECU Metals Symposium in Greenville, NC and “Molten” at Fine Line Creative Arts Center in St. Charles, IL. Havel’s work will also be included in the upcoming book Behind the Brooch by Lorena Angula, due out in February.

Samantha_SkeltonSamantha Skelton is currently the Studio Apprentice at the Society for Contemporary Craft in Pittsburgh,PA, where she is designing and making organic, textural, contemporary wedding and fashion jewelry.

WendyMcAllister_AtollWendy McAllister exhibited her newest one-off enameled brooches at the SIERAAD International Jewellery Art Fair in Amsterdam, The Netherlands in November.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAClaudio Pino’s rings are worn by Stanley Tucci and Lenny Kravitz in “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” movie. Pino is known for his sculptural rings that showcase colored gemstones in mixed metal with mechanical moving parts. Read more>>>

Mensa_RoseRebecca Rose’s work is featured in the American Mensa Bulletin.

Stephen_YuskoStephen Yusko is the subject of the article “Industrial Strength” in the December/January American Craft magazine. Yusko works with forged and fabricated steel.

Todd Reed is included in MJSA Journal’s December article “Fashion Forecast: Key Jewelry Trends That Will Shape 2014.” Belle Brooke Barer is in the same issue, as part of the “2014 Trends Watch: Silver is Here to Stay.”

Boris Bally and Harriete Estel Berman are among the semi-finalists of the 2013 Eco Arts Awards in the Repurposed Materials in Arts and Design category.

AmandaPacker_RecollectAmanda Packer has been awarded the Lydon Emerging Artist Program (LEAP) Award by the Society for Contemporary Craft. The LEAP Award honors exceptional emerging talent in the contemporary craft field. Packer, who recently received her MFA in Jewelry and Metals from San Diego State University, explores memory, nostalgia, and the power of objects in her work. Other finalists include Ashley Buchanan, Tara Locklear, and Laura Wood.

The MJSA Education Foundation recently awarded scholarships to students pursuing degrees related to jewelry making and design. Two of the recipients are SNAG members. Melis Agabigum of Ann Arbor, Michigan, who received a $2,450 scholarship, is working toward her MFA in Metalsmithing/Jewelry and Intermedia (integrated/mixed mediums and installation) at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee. William Yang, who also received a $2,450 scholarship, is completing a BFA in Jewelry at the Pratt Institute in New York City.

Member Achievements – October 2013

KroizShana Kroiz has been working on new pieces of her sensuous jewelry and will be at the American Fine Craft Show NYC, Facets in Baltimore, One of a Kind Show and Sale Chicago, and American Fine Craft Show Brooklyn.

Jillian_MooreJillian Moore will be returning to Amsterdam for the international jewellery art fair SIERAAD with nine other American jewelry makers. They will make up the largest single group of Americans at the fair, all participating for the first time excluding Moore. The organizer of SIERAAD, Astrid Berens, has been working to help promote this year’s influx of Americans with the additional post-fair event “American Monday.” This is a first for SIERAAD, and it will help further showcase the work of ten Americans, five from Moore’s group as well as five others, to the jewelry community of Amsterdam through a series of lectures and demonstrations.

Claudio_PinoClaudio Pino has announced that The Museum of Decorative Arts of Santiago, Chile is presenting a few of his one-of-a-kind rings during the contemporary jewelry exhibition Delirio y Cordura. Pino’s work will also be at Galerie Noel Guyomarc’h in Montreal, Canada; the collective exhibition of 14 jewelers in Quebec will present his new trilogy, which was designed with the theme of transparency, as well as his Collection made in Platinum.

Member Achievements – September 2013

 

MPRMichelle Pajak-Reynolds had a jewelry presentation at the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s 50th Anniversary Enshrinement Festival Fashion Show.  She was featured on FashionMingle.net about her debut as the first independent designer at the show.

Sculpturings_3-isolated-ringsRebecca Rose is the winner of this year’s Halstead Grant for design excellence and business strategy acumen in the silver jewelry market. She recently returned to the jewelry studio to launch her line of “Sculpturings.” The cast rings are sculpted from found object components and original elements to interpret social issues or current events. Creations are named by pairing relevant words with the word “ring,” usually as a suffix.

Sarah Turner has accepted the newly-created position of Dean of Cranbrook Academy of Art. In her new role, Turner will oversee academic programs and partnerships, and provide support to the Academy’s 10 studio departments. She will also continue to oversee enrollment services and the Academy’s support departments.

AleksandraVali_134aAleksandra Vali’s work “Revel of Bile and Envy” was selected to be presented in the book 500 Art Necklaces by Lark Books. And “Jewelry Boxes – Beauty is Inside” is included in 500 Paper Objects by Lark Books.

San Diego State University MFA students Alexandra Hopp, Amanda Packer and Demitra Thomloudis’ work was exhibited in the juried Graduates Exhibition at Galerie Marzee in The Netherlands. Hopp and Packer were two of eight international recipients of the Marzee Prize for 2013.

Member Achievements – August 2013

Dan DiCaprio is a visiting artist at the Society for Contemporary Craft in Pittsburgh this month. He is teaching a workshop on Wood Rings & Wire Inlay.

Santa Fe’s Patina Gallery honors master craftsman Gary Griffin, SNAG’s Lifetime Achievement Award Recipient, with an exhibition of works, models and sketches from a career spanning four decades. Patina is thrilled to offer a selection of Griffin’s works to discriminating collectors. Through August 11.

Michelle Pajak-Reynolds is the first independent designer invited to showcase designs on the runway during the largest fashion show in Ohio — the  Pro Football Hall of Fame 50th Anniversary Enshrinement Festival Fashion Show on August 2nd.
