In my eyes, The City is a sculpted gem, faceted to the surface of the Earth. The adornments that I make reflect the ornamentation and infrastructure of our urban metropolises. I utilize jewelry to celebrate the industrial trades and laborers who have shaped the cities that we inhabit. My family history, with its strong tradition of skilled industrial hand labor, resonates throughout my work. Creating and fabricating contemporary jewelry provides me with a means of carrying on my personal family tradition, while allowing me to develop my own expression of that tradition. Whether decorative iron gates, cast concrete scroll reliefs on building faces, or internal structures that allow a building to stand, the scale of jewelry provides viewers with a more intimate interaction with details of humanity’s urban history, while celebrating those who built the colossal originals.
