When surveying society, there is a realization of the excessive need in identical and mass-produced accessories. Transcending the allure of simply adorning the body and home, my artwork consciously explores the illumination of personal presentation and facilitates an individual expression.

Make a statement and start a conversation with Dawna Gillespie Adornments

My soulful and sculptural “wearable artworks” and “adornments for the home” are all hand fabricated and never-reproduced to defy a world inundated with mass-produced accessories. Beginning with a flat sheet of raw copper or brass, each piece takes shape using a jeweler's saw and techniques such as: piercing, patina, oxidation, etching, hammering, forming, forging, stamping, and cold-connecting. Furthermore, I use symbolism to share details of my soul through: the intensity of colors and texture, hand drawn designs and motifs, significance of scale, and rarity of the piece itself. The result is a lightweight adornment that is truly distinctive.

I truly believe that my pieces "connect" with the wearer and whenever a person places a piece of my art on their body, or in their home, our souls are forever joined through the energies of shared space and time. With an unwavering purpose to restore and reunite: individuality, reverence to craftsmanship, and the world's intrinsic beauty; I am connecting never-reproduced adornments and beautiful souls together, one at a time.

Breathe life back into your wardrobe and your home by choosing adornments that say something extraordinary!

Dawna Gillespie is a metalsmith and jewelry designer from Lubbock, Texas. She holds a BFA in Visual Studies from Texas Tech University. Dawna was only able to take one metalsmith class in her undergraduate studies. However, the first time she picked up a saw she was hooked. She has since found success as a, nationally recognized and published, professional artist. Her wearable artworks and adornments for the home have been exhibited all across the country. Movements, such as Baroque and Art Nouveau, influence the style of her work; while examining the theories of femininity, fertility, domesticity, marriage, and sexuality.

In 2018, Dawna was a finalist for the 2018 International Metal Jewelry Artistry Awards competition in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Her work was also included in the exhibition, VisionMakers2018, at 108 Contemporary in Tulsa, Oklahoma. In 2019, Dawna was named the “Winter 2019 ~ Designer Collection” with a 10 page spread in the national publication of Belle Armoire Jewelry. In March, one of her pieces was juried into the national exhibition, Hidden Treasures: Enveloped Metalwork, at the Craft Alliance Center for Art + Design in St. Louis, Missouri. Later that year, Dawna was 1 of 10 national jewelry artists selected for the national exhibition, Sydney Lynch Juried Jewelry Show, at LUX Center for the Arts in Lincoln, Nebraska.

2020 has brought more success for Dawna GIllespie. She kicked off the 49th season of Texas Country Reporter by being the 1st story featured on the 1st episode that aired in September. Then, Dawna was 1 of 3 Semi-Finalists in the “Fashion & Style” category for the 2020 Texas Works Awards, presented by Go Texan!

Along with these recognitions, Dawna is striving to make the world a more beautiful place; connecting never-reproduced adornments and beautiful souls together ~ one at a time.
