It is my intention to create metal art that contains the vibrancy and beauty that I perceive in nature. Various colours and shapes of organic objects such as flowers and plants are always appealing to me because they represent the delicate dance and tenacity of life.
Working with metals in a large scale allows me to maximize the impact of my response to the resilience of nature and with a small scale I am able to focus on details and fine quality.
During the process of fabrication, I have experienced the resistant properties of metal that reminds me of nature. Using metal characteristics, I create lively and elegant organic forms and then apply soft and warm colours to the surface with various colouring methods.
Eunseon Park is a Korean jeweller-metalsmith who is based in Vancouver, Canada. She completed a BFA in 2017 majoring in Jewellery Design and Metalsmithing, at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design [NSCAD University]. During her studies at NSCAD Eunseon took the opportunity to do an exchange semester in South Korea at Kookmin University. While on exchange study, she became interested in holloware and as a result has been engaged in making vessels and sculptural pieces.
Eunseon’s intention is to imbue her personal impression of nature into her pieces. She is immersed in visualizing the strength as well as the delicacy of flowers and plants using sheet metals.
With her method of shearing the edge of thin metal sheet as a forming process, she experiences uncontrolled beauty of the characteristics of metals, just like how she feels about nature. Another major factor in her working process is the use and experimentation of diverse methods of applying colour to metal.
