Résumé

The pieces included here are from THE LACTATION SERIES.  This series explore the hormonally expanded, stretched and discolored appendages that transform on the female body during pregnancy. Strangely absent from American media, images of the female body’s metamorphosis into motherhood are investigated in these lopsided and swollen forms that refuse to be ignored with bright bitchy pink stockings.

Sarah Holden received her MFA in Studio Art with a focus in Jewelry and Metalsmithing from the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee and her BFA in Crafts/Material Studies and Sculpture from Virginia Commonwealth University. Sarah exhibits her one-of-a-kind jewelry and sculpture both nationally and internationally and is represented by Quirk Gallery, Heidi Lowe Gallery, Penland Gallery, Equinox Gallery, The Baltimore Jewelry Center and The Society for Contemporary Craft. Sarah currently lives in Chicago where she maintains her own studio practice and is an instructor in the Fabricated Metalworking and Forging area at the Chicago Industrial Arts and Design Center.  Sarah loves exploring and eating her way through Chicago with her 1 year-old daughter Hazel and her husband Dave.
