- Long Beach, CA, USA
Kristin Beeler is Professor of Art at Long Beach City College in the greater Los Angeles area. She has been Resident Artist at both Cleveland Institute of Art and Kent State University in Spring/Summer 2009 and visiting artist Cranbrook Academy of Art 2012.
Her studio practice is deeply based in various understandings of the concept of beauty. Past explorations have delved into classical forms of beauty and its mutations. The current premise is the possibility that individual concepts of beauty are derived from the detritus of physical memory and experience. This group considers the body as point of origin as well as experimenting with various current technologies.
Her work has been published in Natural Materials Jewellery Handbook, A&C Black Publishers, 500 Lockets and Pendants, Lark Books, 2006 Exhibition in Print, Metalsmith magazine, 500 Necklaces, Lark Books, 2003 Exhibition in Print, Metalsmith magazine, and Art Jewelry Today, Schiffer Publications.
Beeler has served on the SNAG Board of Directors, Educational Endowment Scholarship jury, Nominations and Elections Committee, Conference Planning Committee and the Exhibitions Planning Committee.
She received her MFA from the University of Arizona (1994) and BA in Art from Berea College (1989).
