My current body of work conveys social issues through the integration of conventional metalsmithing techniques and modern technology. Constructed from silver and recycled aluminum cans, each piece exploits the dichotomy between precious and non precious metals as a reflection on societal value, monetary worth, and usefulness. By embracing the visual intrigue of colors specific to soda cans, recycled materials have been manipulated into shapes characteristic of aluminum atoms or aluminum molecules to create a microscopic magnification effect. These shapes are integrated into organic forms that relate to the natural world from which the metal has been extracted. A theme emerges: The non precious metal, aluminum, can be precious as it relates to the sustainability of our planet.
