R2S Rent-A-Pro LogoRent-A-Pro is a component of SNAG’s Road 2 Success program that makes one-on-one consultations with subject matter experts accessible to artist entrepreneurs. For a reduced rate, clients get a 45-minute meeting with an expert, specifically focused on the goal(s) that you identify. Potential topics include marketing, social media, sales, business plan development, branding, pricing, graphic design, web design, bookkeeping, tax prep, search engine optimization, merchandising, finding your customer segment, legal guidance and more.

Whether you are starting out or need help with an existing business, this personalized attention can be just the support you need to achieve your goals.

Thanks to a generous donation by SNAG Member Constance Hoffman, scholarships are now available for one-on-one consultations with professional subject matter experts through SNAG’s Rent-A-Pro program!  “I’ve been retired for over a year and plan to get back into jewelry, however right now I’m in a good place financially and I remember the days when I was in school and money was tight,” says Constance, who recently attended a Road 2 Success webinar and wanted to make this essential business training available to others.

Adriane Dalton is editor for Metalsmith and Metalsmith Tech magazines, published by the Society of North American Goldsmiths (SNAG). She is also a maker, writer, curator, and educator based in Richmond, VA. She holds an MA in the history of decorative arts and design from Parsons The New School for Design (2014), and a BFA in craft and material studies from the University of the Arts (2004). She has exhibited nationally and internationally at The Greater Denton Arts Council (Denton, TX), Contemporary Craft (Pittsburgh, PA), Snyderman-Works Gallery (Philadelphia, PA), A CASA Museu de Object Brasileiro (Sao Paulo, Brazil), and the National Ornamental Metal Museum (Memphis, TN).

Courtney Gray has been designing jewelry and metal art for 20+ years and has experience as a casting tech, bench jeweler, teacher, all while managing her own custom jewelry business and as the Owner/Creative Director of one of the fastest growing jewelry schools in the U.S.

In 2006, she opened Creative Side Jewelry Academy, an independent school, in Austin, TX. She saw Creative Side as an organic extension of her own studio—a space where a community of artists could share equipment, tools and creative thoughts. Today, her vision has grown to include more than 75 classes each year taught by handpicked instructors, local and from around the world, to provide true expertise.

Courtney is not only the founder of Creative Side Jewelry Academy of Austin, but is also on the advisory board for Rio Grande, Bead and Button, and on the Education Dialogue Committee for the Society of North American Goldsmiths. Designer Gallery and jewelry for a local boutique. Liz now works exclusively for Stay Gold, where she dedicates herself to a select roster of fine jewelry clients, nurturing them to success through digital marketing, trade show strategy, sales-driving techniques, and branding. A native of Pittsfield, Massachusetts, Mark Richard Leach, has served as Executive Director of the Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art in Winston-Salem and was Founding Director and Chief Curator of the Mint Museum of Craft + Design in Charlotte. He currently offers institutional planning and curatorial services for the visual arts. 

Leach has published numerous texts, including Michael Lucero: Sculpture 1976 – 1995, co-published by Hudson Hills Press, New York and the Mint Museum of Art; in May 2000, Harry N. Abrams Inc. and the Mint Museum of Craft + Design co-published Turning Wood into Art: The Jane and Arthur Mason Collection, for which Mr. Leach served as curator, author and editor.

Leach is a graduate of the Getty Leadership Institute for Museum Management. He received a B.A. in studio ceramics from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and graduated from Harvard University with an Ed.M. degree, specializing in twentieth century art and non-profit administration.

He lives with his wife Laura Park-Leach in Matthews, North Carolina

Christina Tatiana Miller is a sustainable jewelry consultant providing strategy, guidance, and impact measurement to make lives better.

Miller focuses her work on small and medium-sized companies in the jewelry industry. She is also a professional speaker, workshop leader, mentor, change-maker, and artist. 

In 2018 Miller was awarded the WJA Carelle Grant for her work to help jewelers make a difference. With the grant she launched Better Without Mercury/Mejor Sin Mercurio.

In 2004 she co-founded Ethical Metalsmiths (EM) and went on to lead the non-profit organization in various capacities for 11 years.

Notable activities during her tenure include:

Co-designing and launching Radical Jewelry Makeover

Organizing the first-ever multi-jeweler Fairmined gold purchase in the US. Through a partnership between Ethical Metalsmiths and precious metals refiner, Hoover & Strong

In July of 2015, Miller stepped down as executive director of EM and currently chairs the Advisory Council.

From 2006-2010 Christina was the Assistant Professor of Jewelry and Metalsmithing at Millersville University, where she won an award for her civic leadership due to her work with Ethical Metalsmiths. At Millersville, she transformed the jewelry and metals curriculum to include responsible sourcing and entrepreneurship.

Gwynne Rukenbrod Smith currently serves as the Executive Director for the Society of North American Goldsmiths (SNAG), an organization dedicated to the support and advancement of contemporary jewelry and metal artists.  Before that, Gwynne was the Executive Director of HandMade in America, an economic development organization that focused on growing craft economies of small towns in Western North Carolina. From 2008 -2010, Gwynne was the first Curator of Fine Craft at the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft, a nonprofit organization founded to advance education about the process, product, and history of craft. She is an accomplished hot glass artist as well as an arts executive. Gwynne currently serves on the board of the North Carolina Glass Center, is a member of the Craft Think Tank, a bi-annual retreat where craft executives come together to talk about issues in the field, and participates regularly as a juror for various exhibitions, art festivals, and craft trade shows. Gwynne believes in helping artists expand their markets and create sustainable businesses. Gwynne lives in Asheville, NC with her husband, 2 dogs and a cat.

Kristin Mitsu Shiga is SNAG’s Education Director and has been a practicing studio artist and educator since 1991. In addition to keeping the books for her own business for more than 25 years, she has helped many self-employed artists and nonprofits navigate the complexities of setting up their bookkeeping structures and preparing their taxes. Kristin has established three successful metalsmithing programs across North America during her career, and build dozens of community and private metals studios. Alongside her studio and teaching practices, her various roles in arts administration afford her a broad base of knowledge in various aspects of nonprofit and academic administration. Kristin currently owns and operates ‘Okina Jewelry from a tiny studio on the Big Island of Hawai’i. Celina Zisman founded Dug Fresh Productions in 2015 as a resource for the creative community in Austin and beyond.
