The Art of Metalsmithing Exposed!
An exhibition to showcase the art of metalsmithing and also educate the general public with images and videos about the work that is involved in the making of each piece. "Metalsmithing" in this instance is three-dimensional work which was cold formed from flat sheet or ingot mostly or partly by hammering. Curated by metalsmith Steve Shelby, this exhibition will feature the work of a diverse group of artists ranging from novice to seasoned professional, including Betty Helen Longhi and Cynthia Eid, authors of the superb book, "Creative Metal Forming". Although the group of artists has been mostly assembled at this point, it will still be possible for highly qualified metalsmiths to be part of it, up to the cutoff date of January 14. Please contact Steve Shelby if interested in being in the exhibition. The opening reception will on May 17, the Friday before the SNAG annual conference in Chicago. Fort Wayne is a 3-4 hour drive from Chicago, depending on how bad Chicago traffic is. We hope that if you are planning on attending the conference you will consider making a side trip to Fort Wayne for this unique opportunity to see this collection of work by so many great metalsmiths.
