Steel Fabrication for Jewelry

Dates: June 28-July 2, 2019
Instructor: Lynn Batchelder

This workshop will focus on using mild steel as the primary material for creating jewelry. Inexpensive and accessible, steel allows the maker to experiment more freely, and to take risks to transform this material. We will discuss the particular properties of steel as it differs from working with nonferrous metals. A variety of fabrication methods will be demonstrated such as silver soldering with steel, joining steel to other metals, wire construction, hollow construction, and chain making. We will also explore various patinas and finishing techniques as a way of preserving and maintaining the metal for wearability. Advanced Beginner to Intermediate
