An introduction to classical Japanese metalworking. Participants will create 8 chisels including the katakiri chisel and v-chisel, and learn wire inlay and carving. In Ford's words: "Traditionally the katakiri chisel was used to create the beautiful chiselled pictures that mimic ink painting, but in a creative metalworkers hands the possibilities are endless."
Ford Hallam is a classically trained goldsmith working in the Japanese tradition of metal art. Since his first study trip to Japan in 1993, Ford has dedicated himself to mastery of this unique tradition's techniques. Widely acknowledged as the leading Western authority on the subject, Ford teaches, creates his own metalwork, and continues research and restoration work in his studio in Devon, England.
