Mount Making with Sasha Nixon

Students will be introduced to the theory and practice of making mounts and the unique challenges of mounting jewelry. Classes will progress from initial design, through fabrication and installation, and consider the needs of museum, gallery, and personal objects. Custom mounts can elevate the display of your art practice or retail business. Making mounts is also a specialized and sought-after skill set if you are looking to make a career in metalworking or supplement income with freelance work. This course includes lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on practice sessions making mounts. Students will have the option to create their own mounts for personal objects.

Sasha Nixon is a metalsmith, curator, and jewelry historian. She is the on-staff mount maker for Museum of Arts and Design, specializing in mounting jewelry.
