The Metal Museum offers two-year apprenticeship opportunities to blacksmiths and foundry artists. These positions offer artists invaluable experiential learning that is meant to expand their professional and practical skills. Responsibilities include the production of commissioned works, assistance with educational programming, participation in national conferences, weekly demonstrations, daily interaction with museum visitors, and shop maintenance.
The foundry apprentice residency period is August 1, 2020 to July 31, 2022. Onsite housing, insurance, paid leave, studio access, and a monthly living stipend are included. Applicants must submit a resume, letter of interest, three letters of reference, and at least 20 images of recent work, including the submission of an image list with title, date, size, and media.
