Lost Wax Casting w/ Stephen Saracino

This course will concentrate on the technical and aesthetic aspects of carving wax for a Lost Wax carved jewelry object. We will concentrate on carving wax for a ring, pendant, or set of earrings. Emphasis will be placed on achieving balance between design and technique. The resulting wax will be invested in a plaster mold and then cast and finished to a polished surface. All materials (except metal materials) will be supplied. This class is open to all levels of experience.

The class will begin with a short image presentation of the instructor’s work and a demo of the processes that will be used to create the jewelry piece. Time permitting, there will also a demonstration on how to make a rubber mold for production of more than one duplicate of the object cast.
