Virtual Intermediate - Advanced: Wax Carving & Casting, Basket Setting, Metalsmithing
Wax Carving & Casting
In this class, you will learn to apply basic wax carving and construction methods to develop a beautiful ring and pendant! While using the wax, we will focus on positive and negative space, surface texture, transferring images, and converting wax weight to sterling silver. After the casting process, which will be demonstrated in our studio through Zoom or in person (optional), you will pick up your cast silver jewelry and we will go over finishing techniques for you to execute at home.
All levels welcome. No experience necessary!

Learn how to fabricate a basket setting for a gemstone from silver wire. You will find out the tricks of the trade on bending and soldering wire to fit oddly-shaped faceted stones that will not fit commercially available wire settings. Soldering skills are must for this class. If you don’t know how to solder, you will not achieve the desired results of the project or goals set for the class. You will need an already functioning solder set up equipped with a torch at home. We will be working with hot metals, so 100% cotton jeans and closed-cover leather shoes are mandatory.
