James Thurman Workshop - Thurmanite Jewelry & Microhardware
This workshop will introduce students to incorporating Thurmanite and microhardware into their jewelry designs. Thurmanite is a layered, composite material made of recycled paper and eco-resin that has the appearance of stone, but is very lightweight and wearable. Microhardware is a cold-joining technique that is very versatile due to its threaded connections. Combined, they add a myriad of possibilities to a jeweler's approaches. The first day of the workshop will focus on transforming pre-made Thurmanite blanks into jewelry components. The second day of the workshop will focus on microhardware and how to use it in combination with Thurmanite. Students will have the opportunity to complete either a variety of samples or finished jewelry, depending on their interests.
