Apply now for Adorned Spaces
The 2019 Chicago SNAG conference is seeking curators, organizations, schools and individuals to offer a fresh look at the field of contemporary metalsmithing through a multiple-exhibition and sale event called Adorned Spaces.
This juried event will highlight both established and emerging artists to celebrate innovations in metalsmithing through SNAG’s lifetime. Deadline: December 15, 2018. Learn more and apply
2019 Exhibition in Motion Call for Entries
Aurum: The Golden Year
SNAG will celebrate its 50th Anniversary next year at the 2019 Chicago conference, The Loop: Coming Full Circle. The Exhibition in Motion (EiM) committee is seeking works that reflect this milestone. The EiM is a runway-type live exhibition event that takes place at the conference.
How do you see gold? Glitz, glam, indulgent, excessive, subtle or even demure? Gold goes beyond a material, it is a color, a signifier and a feeling. Translate the idea of gold literally, or let it transport you to a golden place.

SNAG Announces New Education Director
SNAG is pleased to announce that noted metalsmith and arts educator Kristin Mitsu Shiga will join its staff as Education Director. Kristin will be responsible for planning and managing SNAG’s conferences and educational initiatives. She has held a variety of positions in the nonprofit arts sector, including Gallery Director at the Museum of Contemporary Craft, Extension Program Director at the Oregon College of Art & Craft, Program Director at the Donkey Mill Art Center, and Chair of the Board of Trustees for Haystack Mountain School of Crafts. Kristin served as SNAG’s very first Conference Director from 2003-2006.
Kristin has taught classes and workshops in metalsmithing and enameling around the world since 1992 and established successful metalsmithing programs at art centers in Oregon, New York and Hawaii. As a maker, she is deeply inspired by her participation in various artist collaborations, including the biennial EMMA International Collaboration in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan as well as CollaboratioNZ in Whangarei, New Zealand and the Hawaii Artist Collaboration in Holualoa, Hawaii. Her work is featured in numerous publications, including Art Jewelry Today, The Art of Enameling and several of Lark Books’ 500 Series. She has shown her work internationally and is included in notable collections, such as the Kamm Artful Teapot collection and the Permanent Collection of the White House. 2018 SNAG Student Exhibition Awards
MADE: The 2018 Juried Student Exhibition highlighted student work that challenges traditional and non-traditional ways of working using new and old materials, techniques, and ideas by the next generation of makers in the metalsmithing and jewelry field. The exhibition was held in May during the SNAG conference in Portland, Oregon.
